Sorrento and surrounding areas

Honestly, there is so much to see and do in and around Sorrento! Here are some places that we've experienced so far.

Tips: DO your research. DON'T  limit yourselves to JUST visiting the SUPER touristy spots. Explore the little alleys, venture off the beaten path. Try something new! That's the beauty of travel! Check out Tripadvisor.com and Viator.com for some good suggestions too.

Explore Sorrento at night

This was our favorite time to explore Sorrento. The sun goes down and the vibe is beautiful. People watch. Check out the little local shops. Grab some Limoncello. Have 2 dinners (we may have done this more than once). Make it to Corso Italia (the main strip). Eat more gelato. Support local artisans.

Ferry to Amalfi Coast towns- Positano, Amalfi, Praiano

Positano and Amalfi are the most visited towns. Summary: They're beautiful. Touristy-trap like and can be VERY busy. You should see them though! Krista had some beautiful custom sandals made (and she's getting more here) in Amalfi, Sal got locked in a bathroom, and we saw a dog on a Vespa. It's all one big hill. Your glutes will be worked during your exploration! Wear comfy shoes.

Amalfi

Ravello

Our favorite spot on the Amalfi Coast so far! Epic views, less visitors than the towns on the water. It felt more authentic to us. To reach this town in the sky, simply jump on a ferry to Amalfi, and then a take taxi or bus up to Ravello. Or you can opt for a private car all the way there (1.5 hours) from Sorrento.  Don't miss: Villa Ciambrone. The gardens and views are an Italian dream! Ravello is also known for ceramics, so look into having some stunning, handmade artisanal items shipped home.

Capri

Warning: Honest review about to go down. We did a private boat tour which was scheduled to stop at the infamous Blue Grotto but the water was too rough, and it was closed. The Faraglione (the massive, towering rock spires sticking out of the water) were stunning! Full disclosure, our favorite part about Capri was the boat trip around the island. Capri felt like on one big tourist trap, including the bad food! It's fancy and definitely a place to see and be seen. Gucci, Pucci, Ferragamo... nothing we can't see on 5th Ave, NYC.  The one exception are the very instagrammable views! But that was just our experience, it may feel different at night when the hordes leave the island.

Day trip to Pompeii & Mount Vesuvius

Pompeii: If you're a history nerd, a nature enthusiast, or just someone who wants to experience life,  you need to visit these spots! Witness the destruction of Mother Nature, see the mind-blowing technology (heated floors!, hot water!)  they had, and visit a brothel all in Pompeii.

Mount Vesuvius: How often can you see the only ACTIVE mainland volcano in Europe? Don't worry the last time it erupted was 1944... it's on an extended siesta. It erupts about every 80 years... so. ANYWAY. Krista made Sal hike to the top of Vesuvius... we won by the way. Not that it was a race, but we made it to the top first of our tour group, in 12 minutes  Beat that time and you get a prize.

Trust us when we say you're going to do a lot of walking up hill every single day. So, if you're looking for an extra challenge with a panoramic view, these trails are not to be missed.
